The huge success of the Thriller Album saw record sales and record profits unprecedented at that time by any recording artist in the world.
Seven out of nine of the Songs on the Thriller Album Michael were released as singles. Out of the seven singles, not one, not two, but ALL of these singles made it into the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The success of the Album saw it win an unprecedented record breaking eight Grammy Awards at the 1984 Grammy's.
Michael was a visionary long before his time, he was able to mix his talent with his strong defined sense as a artist and professional entertainer to produce one of the worlds first albums which used music video’s as marketing promotion. So successful was this approach that Michael has enjoyed regular replays of his video’s on MTV.
So successful was the Thriller Album that Michael was able to break down many of the racial barriers which existed in the US at that time. It also took Michael into the White House where he enjoyed meetings with Ronald Reagan, who at that time was the President of the United States.
Although Michael Jackson had already experienced success as an artist, the thriller album cemented him as being one of that all time professional singers and entertainers.
Prior to the success of this Album, MTV would could be said to have been a racist model of all we dislike about racism. As a whole there were no videos of black america being shown on MTV. This all changed with the huge success of Michael's Album and his music video's received numerous replays far exceeding those of other artists.
The single act by MTV of broadcasting the videos of Thriller in prime time was the beginning of what has helped to lead us to the acceptance of white and black America.
At that time no-one would have even dreamt the possibility of a Black African American as the leader of the American People. Maybe I am carrying this significance a little to far, but the racial barriers that Michael was able to tear down due to his success was indeed that dramatic.
Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the Thriller Album at number 20 of the greatest Albums of all time in the 2003 Album list.
